Similar to other countries, gambling is alive and booming in Denmark. Last year alone it was reported that the Danish people spent close to 11 billion kroner on gaming and betting. Gambling is not illegal in Denmark, but there are gaming laws set by the government to protect the players.
These laws cover lottery, casinos, Internet or online gambling and all forms of betting activities done in Denmark. For instance, while the government does not have a monopoly on the casinos being operated around the country, it has put in place laws to regulate the number of casino operators. Licenses are also issued for a certain period of time – usually good for one year and has to be renewed.
As well, the government through the Ministry of Justice has the authority to determine the age limit for purchasing betting tickets and entry into a casino (at least 18 years of age). By law, the casinos are also required to register their guests – names, addresses, birth dates and nationalities. That being said the handful of casinos that operate in Denmark are still doing well despite the restrictions, and are popular amongst tourists and visitors as well. Games such as American roulette, Black Jack, Viking Poker, Texas Hold’em Poker along with slot machines and Touchbet Roulette can be played.
