Fashion is celebrated in the top cosmopolitan cities all over the world, and Denmark’s capital is among them. The Copenhagen Fashion Week is Northern Europe’s biggest fashion event and similar to the other fashion events, it is held twice a year. Organized by the Danish Fashion Institute in 2006, the event has attracted more than 1,500 designers and over 3,000 branded collections.

International fashion names like Balenciaga, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Dolce&Gabbana, Jil Sander among others have regularly participated in it. Local designers count the likes of Ivan Grundahl, Sofie Olgaard, Baum und Pferdgarten and Malene Birger along with new and upcoming designers who are aspiring to make a name for themselves in the fashion industry.

The Copenhagen Fashion Week is usually held once on February and another one in August.  Over the years it has gained a significant following all over the world – it is estimated that over 50,000 come to Copenhagen for the Fashion Week events. While there are international fashion brands that take advantage of the fashion fairs and events, the spotlight is still on Scandinavian designers and the fashion innovation, trends and looks for the forthcoming seasons.

During the event, there are about 35 to 50 runway shows that will take place all over Copenhagen including the Town Hall. There is also the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair which has become an integral part of the Fashion Week – over 1,000 exhibitors participate in the trade fair that usually takes place in Bella Center. While there are shows and events that are only open to registered participants and invited guests from the media, there are also show that are open to the general public.
