The central Danish island of Fyn is an easy, one-and-a-half-hour drive from Copenhagen but is a world away from the sleek, high-style of the capital. Cross the Storebælt (Great Belt) suspension bridge and you might think you had driven into a pop-up fairy tale.
The largest city on Fyn is Odense.
Fyn has a picturebook castle and is haunted by spirits and tall tales, as you'd expect from the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. With its pastel-washed, cobbled villages, chic and clean local cuisine, the island is also a popular weekend gourmet retreat.
