Mention Billund and the first thing most locals would say is Legoland. Indeed, the lively town in Jutland in western Denmark has gained its popularity mainly for being home to the Lego Group headquarters and the site of the Legoland theme park, one of Denmark’s top attractions. The town was founded in the 17th century but remained small until the strat of the 20th century when Ole Kirk Christiansen started investing in Billund. He built a new dairy and bought a furniture factory. In 1932, the Lego toy production started and from then on the town experienced vigorous growth. Even with the ravages brought on by World War II and the 1950s economic recession, Billund bounced back to life buoyed by the increasing popularity of the plastic brick toys. Legoland opened in 1968 and brought in tourism revenues to the town. Every year, the massive theme parks reportedly draws in over 1.5 million visitors. Aside from this, the town is also home to the second largest and busiest airport in Denmark, Billund Lufhtavn.
There are other interesting attractions and entertaining activities that can be done in Billund aside from family fun in Legoland. Billund Sightseeing Flights offers an exciting way to explore the town as well as other parts of Denmark via small propeller aircrafts. There is also the indoor waterpark of Lalandia Billund which features wasterslides, Jacuzzis, indoor and outdoor pools and other fun activities for all members of the family. There are also prehistoric monuments and ruins that date back to the Viking Age.
