There are many ways to tour the Danish capital city of Copenhagen. Just pick your choice. You can see the amazing sights in this wonderful city by driving around in your car, by taking the bus or simply by walking. In addition to these, though, visitors can also do their tour by running.

Yes, you read it right. It's running around and you will be able to do this if you join the yearly Copenhagen Marathon. This popular activity has been going on since 1980 and attracts some 10,000 runners and spectators each year. Last year when the event marked its 30th anniversary, a record number of participants at more than 12,000 was set.

This year, the Copenhagen Marathon is scheduled on May 22. In line with this, there will be a three-day sports expo, pasta party while participants will be given free water and energy drinks as well as shirts. Registration is now going on at the official Copenhagen Marathon website.

The Copenhagen Marathon features 3 different routes and normally, the first and third parts are identical. This means that spectators watching at those two similar routes get to see the runners and cheer for them twice. The route passes through some of the city's famous landmarks so participants not only get the chance to enjoy favorite running activity but they also get the opportunity to see the great sights around the Danish capital.

What also makes this yearly marathon a hit among both runners and spectators is the fact that there are numerous bands and dancers along the routes. This gives the event a lively and festive mood.

The top three finishers in each age group in the marathon will receive awards. Additionally, all runners who are able to finish the race in a period of six hours will get a commemorative medal and a finisher's certificate.
